Self-love is more than just accepting your body and feeling beautiful. The importance of self-love goes way beyond body image. Self-love is vital to being healthy.

Self-love isn’t about outer beauty. It’s much deeper than that.

self-love

Self-love is important for a healthy mind and body. It might not seem that important at first glance.. even selfish to some, but it has a huge impact on so many aspects of our lives. It influences our relationships, who we choose as friends and relationships, how you are perceived by others and the choices you make in your daily life. It impacts your inner health as well…

I challenge you to think of self-love as being necessary, healthy, valuable and life-changing.

Self-love is filled with self-compassion, self-care, and self-forgiveness.

How we eat, move, and live is so important. It determines aspects of our health.

This can be very simple yet sometimes very hard.

We need to remember to be kind to ourselves…

Being kind is being good, considerate, helpful, and humane. Kindness is gentle, loving, and affectionate. Kindness is rarely talked about in connection to our health and I believe it should be. Being kind to ourselves is not selfish either.

We often hear how health revolves around what we eat, how we move, how much we eat, or how little we eat. This kind of thinking generally leaves more people convinced that healthy living is some sort of disciplined battle. They look at it in a negative way.

We’ve been told that we have to count every calorie, run a certain number of miles, lift a certain amount of weight, give up certain foods, eat this many times a day, or look a certain way. All the while we are either motivated or discouraged by the images constantly shoved in our face about how “healthy” should look: Thin, strong, sexy, perfect. That can cause some people to completely shy away from trying to take care of their health.

It’s no wonder so many people “give up” and fall off the wagon or give up on their exercise goals altogether. Too many different messages about healthy living give us the idea that it’s not really enjoyable, and generally not attainable. When in all reality, it should be something you are proud to attain.

While I’m not saying taking care of your body and watching what you eat is a bad idea. You should care about your body and what you put into it. You should make sure you are NOURISHING your body properly…food is fuel.

It’s just that we tend to stress so much on the little factors that we forget to apply the rule of kindness in the process of it all. We tend to be too hard on ourselves and make it difficult to follow through with it all.

Quite often, our health is directly connected to our happiness. This is why it is so important to love ourselves and be kind through the process of it all. Every little step in the right direction is you showing yourself love and kindness.

When we forget to be kind to ourselves, we begin sabotaging the thought of a healthy body through self-hate, body shaming, critical judgment, and unrealistic ideals.

In other words, we lose joy. We don’t feel happy. Our health then becomes a difficult task to attain and we just give up on it all.

It really doesn’t matter how fit you are, how perfect your diet is… if you aren’t happy with yourself,  you are not healthy.

The Importance of Self Love: Being kind to your body.

Being kind means letting go of the idea that you have to look a certain way to be worthwhile. Your worth does not come from a look, it comes from within you.

Being kind means listening to your body when it needs nourishment and fueling it properly, exercise, or rest. Being kind also means getting rid of toxic behavior, letting go of toxic relationships, and freeing yourself from anything that poisons your life whether literally or figuratively.

Being kind means stopping the comparisons that leave you feeling guilty, bitter, or weak.

Being kind means enjoying the other aspects of your amazing life, even if they don’t always fall into the “ideal” aspect of nutrition or fitness.

Being kind means balance in all things. Not neglecting your body and its needs, but also not neglecting the other aspects of life, either. There are many things that fuel our body, mind, and spirit. Exercise and diet are only part of the equation.

So I challenge you…

You, the person who wants to be healthy and live a long and happy life…

Please be kind and have patience with yourself. Be kind to your body. Be kind to those around you. Your health, your happiness, depends on it. The importance of self-love becomes clear as you see your attitude toward your body change into kind and loving thoughts.

Be good to yourself!
