How do you overcome stress? I mean, we all have stress in our lives right?!

Ever feel completely overwhelmed, almost to the point of complete exhaustion, maybe you feel like crying or even throwing up and you just want to curl up into a ball and hope it all just goes away?

Guess what? You’re human and it happens to the best of us. It happened to me last week and I wanted to make sure you knew you weren’t alone with these feelings. I can totally relate.

It was just a crazy day where there was a lot going on and all I could think about was making sure I got from this place t this place in time and then in the back of my mind, all the things I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get to that day just kept eating away at me.

It’s like you have a lot going on and one minute you think you’ve got it all covered and you’re handling everything like a champ and THEN you have a moment of feeling super overwhelmed and then one more thing gets added to the mix and it totally sets you off.

It can be so overwhelming and feel like things are completely impossible and then a little panic starts to set in. You get emotional and maybe you just want to break down and have a good ugly cry. Seriously! Sometimes, you just have to let it all out.

You have to get it all out, for real. Scream if you have to but find a way to get it out. Write it all down and then take a good look at it all. Look and see what you ABSOLUTELY MUST do and then figure out what is actually optional.

Try to identify what it is that is causing you to feel so overwhelmed and stressed, these things might be optional. You may want to reconsider things that are optional and do away with them. This is actually a great ability to have when dealing with stress. Our inability to deal with stress can jack us up way more than we realize.

Once you’ve identified the necessary and the optional, you have to look for a solution to it all. Accept what’s left, the necessary. create a plan around it. Try to figure out where you too that wrong turn and recalculate things. Did you say YES to too many things? Are you a people pleaser? Did you maybe underestimate the time it would take you to get things done?

When you’ve answered those questions you now kind of need to figure out what you’re going to do about it. What are you going to do about the optional “stuff”? Maybe delegate it to someone else, politely decline things. It’s ok and sometimes necessary to say NO. When you say no to others, it’s kind of like saying YES to your sanity. Seriously! It can get to that point.

When all is said and done and you’ve figured out the NECESSARY and the OPTIONAL stuff in your life, you’ll find yourself feeling a little less stressed. You have to find a method that works for you and revisit it when things get hairy. When you can learn to do this then you have learned the ability to deal with stress and your life will run much smoother.
