How to Stay Motivated with Your Health and Fitness

Personal motivation is key to starting and maintaining a healthy way of life and reaching your weight loss goals. If we’re not motivated, we’re more likely to waste our time and neglect our health and fitness goals. Even the most determined people can lose steam sometimes.

Zig Ziglar says, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”

So true for many things in life. It’s not like you can hit a light switch and then you are changed for life. The most meaningful and important things tend to need continued effort. We need to remind ourselves and renew our motivation daily.

Keep reading to find out my tips on how to stay motivated:

Remind yourself of your goals.  Make short- and long-term goals. Have a plan of action.Remember to keep your goals realistic, that way you wont flip out if you don’t reach them. That doesn’t mean you can’t push and challenge yourself though, if you don’t challenge yourself, then it’s not really a goal. If you start to lose sight of your goals, then you may be less motivated than if you were always checking to see how much closer you are getting throughout the whole process. Keeping track of your goals and checking your progress can help keep you motivated day in and day out.

Keep track of your progress.  Everyone needs to see how they are keeping up with their goals if they want to stay motivated. If you see that you are on track or even excelling every time you check your progress, you will be motivated and happy that you are getting there. Keeping track helps you see how far you’ve actually come on your journey. It can also help you get back on track if things slip a little.

Focus on how you feel. Too often we focus on a specific number on the scale, or even a task we must do to reach our goal (like working out), which is a pretty quick way to kill your motivation. Concentrate on how you feel after you’ve eaten a healthy meal or how you feel after a great workout. How will it FEEL when you reach a certain goal?

Visualize your ideal self. Visualize yourself achieving weight loss that will lead you to your goal. Once you have clearly visualized yourself achieving a healthy weight that is right for you, then you must think about how it will benefit you.  So for example, see yourself looking and feeling healthy, fit and confident.

Find support. If you’re having trouble finding the motivation to get started, find some support. Whether it be a workout buddy, a support/accountability group the help of like minded people who have been there and done that can push you to achieve your goals. Support and accountability are huge with my Health and Fitness Lifestyle Program. I’ve seen many people support and motivate each other because they all have the same goals in mind.

I hope my tips on how to stay motivated with your health and fitness journey have helped. When all is said and done, the most important thing is that you believe in yourself. Know it takes time to reach your goals and be patient with yourself. You can do amazing things and with the help and motivation of others, just like you, you can push past anything that may try to stop you from reaching your goals.
