Don’t Take Your Health for Granted

Too many people out there are taking their health for granted. STOP!

I have a family history of heart disease. My dad AND my uncle BOTH have had heart attacks in their 40’s so you better believe, I take things seriously when it comes to my health and my heart.

The other day, I was having a bit of chest pain, which I had actually been having, on and off for a few days. Since this was similar to the way my dad’s heart attack went down I was a little concerned. After talking to him about what it “feels” like to have a heart attack he basically told me to get it checked NOW!!

At that time, I actually felt a little silly walking into the ER with chest pains. I mean, most people with chest pains are probably brought in by ambulance. Since I had a family history, they got me in and started testing things pretty much immediately. Long story short, all of my tests came back normal and I was sent home with piece of mind.

Why am I telling you this? Because WHAT IF  it were something with my heart and I just shrugged it off? Do you think I want my kids to go through the fear of losing me to a heart attack like I did with my dad? NO! I owe it to them to be at my best health. Heck, I owe it to ME!

My dad was having  chest pains for a few days before he actually went into the hospital to get things checked. WHAT IF he had just decided to do nothing? He may not still be here today.

What I’m saying is this…QUIT TAKING YOUR HEALTH FOR GRANTED!!

Quit making excuses as to why you don’t have time to get a yearly physical or go and get something checked out or make some changes to your health. I’m not buying that anymore. MAN, if you KNOW you have a family history of something you better damn well get it checked out if you feel the slightest inclination that it might be affecting you.

WHAT IF I hadn’t went and had things checked out and WHAT IF it DID end up being something more serious?? THEN WHAT? Your health is EVERYTHING, you can’t put a dollar amount on it and you sure can’t replace it. If you don’t have your health, you have NOTHING!!

I’m going to leave you with this…I can remember the EXACT moment when my sister came into my work that day and told me that my dad had a heart attack. I was shocked and I didn’t know what to say. She said, “Mom said it’s ok and not to worry it’s just angina.” She then left and I stayed at work, I still don’t know why I didn’t leave immediately.

I remember calling my friend right after that and then sinking to the floor crying as I told her. I WAS SCARED!!I ended up leaving work and going up to the hospital shortly after that phone call. He ended up having a heart attack, having angioplasty and being in the ICU for a few days.

WHAT IF he never went and got it checked?? THAT right there, is the reason I went and got myself checked out. I owe it to my family and myself.

Don’t take your health for granted friends!!!
