Number one tip in being true to yourself is staying true to your values. Your values are your principles or standards of behavior, it’s what’s important in life. In being true to who you are, you should never have to lose sight of what theses values are.

We all have a set of ideas or values that guide us through our decisions and make us who we are, but when faced with challenges we often tend to put them to the side. There will always be people out there that will try to sway you from what your true values are. Sometimes, you may even second guess whether or not the values you have are worth having when certain circumstances arise in life.

Below are a few helpful tips that will help keep you on the right path with your values and stay true to them.

Find values that are important to you.

If you know your values, then you know what you want, you know who you are, you know where you stand. Your values should shape your life decisions as well as your day to day. What makes you tick? What are your passions, you beliefs?

Surround yourself with like minded people who have similar values

Finding others who support you and build you up will only benefit you in the long run. Plus, whenever life gets a little crazy, these people will help remind you of you values.

Stand up for yourself and your beliefs.

Trust me, there will be many times in your life where people will have differing viewpoints from you, and that’s perfectly okay.  An important aspect of sticking to your values is to listen to others with an open mind. It is totally okay to defend your opinions, and to be passionate about them. It’s okay to have different values than someone else, that’s what makes us all different.

Take time to explore your interests, and to figure out the things that truly make you happy. These personal values and beliefs are all part of what makes us who we are. Once you find these things, it is important to hold onto them and make them a priority in your everyday life. There will be many people and experiences who will try to lead you away from what you value, but if you’re true to these values and beliefs, you can easily steer yourself back on track.
