Why Motivation is Garbage

Fear of the unknown is why motivation is garbage. I know I talk a lot about motivation and how to get motivated so I’m not saying motivation is useless. It’s garbage in the sense that people think they have to wait to be motivated to do something when in reality it is just an excuse we use to protect ourselves from the fear of the unknown.

You know exactly what you need to be doing in order to get what you want out of life. You already know there’s opportunity out there and it all lies in your ability to step outside of your comfort zone, but you still won’t do it, and here’s why, you’re scared!

Knowing what you need to do isn’t going to get you there and motivation might not either. You may have these killer ideas that never get put into action because you lack the motivation or drive to actually make something out of those ideas, but what if you never needed to be motivated in the first place?

What if all you had to do was believe in yourself? What if all you had to do was take a simple action step and just get started? You’d start a little chain reaction in your confidence and your productivity.

Most of us feel motivated to do things that are easy because we know we can accomplish them with no obstacle at all. Since are brains are wired to protect us from the mysterious unknown and all the hurt that comes along with it, it is simple for us to blame lack of motivation as the reason for not facing some of the most challenging decisions in life.

What you need to do is rewire your brain to quit overthinking things and stop using the “I just can’t get motivated. ” excuse.

You can step outside of your comfort zone and use this little 5 second rule. I read a little book a while back, by Mel Robbins called The 5 Second Rule and it changed the way I look at things.

The moment you think you need motivation to get you going and you start to overthink things..count down 5-4-3-2-1-..GO!!! This counting will help you focus on the goal or commitment you are looking to achieve and distract you from the worried, thoughts and fears you are overthinking about.

Counting down distracts you from the unknown, the worries and it helps you focus your attention on what you need to do. It helps retrain your brain to take action when you’d normally stop yourself by overthinking. This new thinking and counting can create remarkable change and give you the courage to do whatever it is you’re looking to accomplish.

It pushes you to move past the doubt and get things done. There’s greatness inside of you, it’s just on the other side of your excuses.

If you have the courage to start, you have the courage to succeed at anything…5-4-3-2-1!!
