It’s easy to start an exercise program but sticking with it can sometimes be the hard part. So I’m about to give you a few helpful tips on how to stay on track with your fitness goals.
- Treat Exercise as an Appointment
Write it down in your planner, set an alarm, whatever you have to do. Make it an appointment that you CAN’T cancel on. You don’t cancel your work appointments or doctors appointments do you? Schedule it at a time that works best for you and stick with it. Mark it down as a PRIORITY!!
2. Set Goals
Be in competition with yourself. It’s great to see progress, which is exactly what you want to do, be a little stronger each day, a little faster, one more rep. Set a goal to be stronger than yesterday, EVERY DAY!
3. Make exercise FUN!
I know it may sound crazy BUT exercise CAN actually be FUN! Find something that makes you feel happy when you are doing it. Take it outside, workout in a park, play volleyball, try taking a few classes or find a fun home workout you like doing. I can tell you, if it’s not fun, I’m not doing it!
4. Switch it up
Don’t do the same exercises over and over again. Switch it up every now and again and try something new. You’ll get bored if you continue doing the same thing over and over again. Besides, switching thing up causes muscle confusion which is great for building more muscle.
5. Use the Buddy System
Having a buddy or support system can not only make exercise fun but it can help keep you accountable and keep you on track with your goals. You’ll be more inclined to “show up” and do the work when you have someone to answer to.
Whatever you do, make it count and know that you’re not alone if you feel like you’ve fallen off track. It happens to the best of us. I do hope that these few tips above can help you achieve your goals and stay on track with them.
