For real…what’s up with the 1200 calorie diets? Why is the be-all, end-all of weight loss? Who even came up with this?

I have so many people come to me telling me they are on a 1200 calorie diet and yet they are still struggling with losing weight.

In this episode, I’ll be discussing the 1200 calorie diet and the actual TRUTH around it.
Let me just tell you that I’ve been there, done that, and then gained it back.

It seems the 1200 calorie diet is where we all go when we think we need to lose weight..no matter our current size, weight, or activity level…we must “eat less and move more” to lose weight.

BUT, If I can teach you anything it is that WE ARE NOT ALL THE SAME, and 1200 calories is not enough to sustain a small toddler.

Calorie needs are different for each of us and can also vary on the daily. When someone comes to me and asks how many calories they should be eating I generally say…ENOUGH!! Most times after a deep dive into what they are currently eating, we discover they are NOT even touching the 1200 calorie mark, they aren’t even eating enough to keep their energy up let alone fuel their body properly.

Most times, it’s our thoughts around food and what we think it does as far as gaining weight that has us afraid to even touch 1200 calories a day. I mean, “Susie” lost weight on her 1200 calorie diet that her doctor put her on…so I’m sure it will work for me….P.S….YOU are NOT Susie!! Also, you have no idea why and how long of a duration her doctor has her only eating 1200 calories ( which I despise when doctors do this)…again, it comes to our thoughts around food and calories and weight loss. Is it possible that some of our thoughts around all of this are a bit twisted???

I know mine sure was.

1200 calorie diets can actually be quite harmful, not only for our thoughts BUT for our health. They may cause some of the following symptoms:

  • Dizziness
  • Extreme Hunger ( leading to binge eating)
  • Nausea
  • Deficiencies
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Slowed Metabolism

It seems we will try whatever it takes to be smaller ( because society says smaller is better) without blinking our eyes at what it is doing to our overall health.

Yep, a little bit more of my story is coming out…I was so fixated on the external changes that I didn’t realize what the 1200 calories were doing to me internally…I’m about to reveal the TRUTH behind these 1200 calorie diets.
