5 Steps to Happiness Step 5: Balancing Work with Play

“All work and no Play makes Jack a dull boy.”

I’ll be the first to admit, hard work DOES pay off but, it is also important to take a little time to play.

Don’t be that workaholic that is missing out on all the fun events and don’t be that party animal that never has any accomplishments to show. You can’t do all of either and be successful. You have to learn to balance the two.

It’s not always easy to find that balance but finding the RIGHT balance is all up to you. You deserve to enjoy ALL aspects of your life. Have fun and don’t make everything so serious all the time.

So, how does on work on this work/play balance thing? Here are a few simple steps to start you on your balancing act.

Set a schedule for how late you plan to stay at work. If you are supposed to work 9 to 5 and you find yourself getting in “just one more thing” more often than not, it’s time you set that schedule and draw a line in the sand to LEAVE work at 5, no matter what. That “one more thing” can turn into a million extra little things and you’ll end up being at work for more than just 5 minutes more each day.

Leave your work AT WORK! Seriously, don’t take it home with you, leave it all on the table until the next day. Drop it and RUN if you must but make it a priority to let it go when you leave for the day.

Make plans with people in your life. Ya know those friends of youre that you enjoy spending time with? Set a date and make some fun plans with them. Relax and enjoy the company and have some serious belly laughs.

Take time for yourself. I don’t care if it’s 5 minutes each morning. JUST DO IT!! You’ll be amazed at what that little bit of YOU TIME does for your stress level.

Last but not least…DO NOT FEEL GUILTY for doing any of the above. It’s YOUR life and you MUST have some kind of balance that you are in control of in order to have a life of happiness.
